Following a golf committee meeting back in 2014 in which members of the Knights of Columbus, St. Isaac Jogues Council #10462 were planning their annual golf scramble, Dawson C. Wright IV and Joe Matos discussed a need to create a fundraising event that would include more people of the community that does not require a large skill set like golf and was more affordable for families. Wright and Matos agreed on the importance of community building within our own parish community and, as avid bowlers, felt that a bowling activity may be the right mix that would involve youth and adults alike.
Our council has found great success in many of the fundraising events efforts that have contributed to organizations such as Beta House, Russell Home, Boy Scouts of America, Special Olympics, Central Florida Children’s Home and St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church to name a few. With charity being one of the Knights of Columbus core principles, especially to support mothers who choose life for their babies, Wright, the Council’s Youth Director, and Matos, the Council’s Pro-Life Chairman, proposed to the council that this event benefit an organization that meets this principle. They decided that JMJ Pregnancy Center, an organization that helps women and families on many levels, puts this core principle into practice. Council #10462 agreed and decided that this fundraising event is not only more inclusive of the larger community and an activity most people may do anyway, but it would also enable others to contribute to such a worthy cause.
Our event title “Sparing the Little Ones” creates a bowling pun that ties the nature of our charitable efforts to the activity that is full of family, fun and entertainment. Even for the more competitive bowler, we include prizes for best scores in several categories including youth, men, women and team. With food, prizes, and fun, the “Sparing the Little Ones” Bowling Event has fast become one of the more successful and enjoyable events for our Council, our participants, our sponsors and our benefactor. We hope that you will join us for our upcoming bowling event!
